Saint Jacques derives its name from the road of the same name, Rue Faubourg Saint-Jacques. The roadway was a main artery for centuries – a direct route to ancient Rome's Orleans, the central street of Lutetia, the grand road in the Middle Ages, and a pilgrimage route in the 13th century.
