Saint Jacques derives its name from the road of the same name, Rue Faubourg Saint-Jacques. The roadway was a main artery for centuries – a direct route to ancient Rome's Orleans, the central street of Lutetia, the grand road in the Middle Ages, and a pilgrimage route in the 13th century.
The Saint Jacques station is located on the Left Bank which contains the lovely Montparnasse district know for its artists and Paris' tallest building Tour Montparnasse. The Catacombs are also located in 14e.
The 14e is home to the Cite Internationale Universitie de Paris and Stade Charlety, which serve as the biggest economical businesses in the area.
