About Porte Maillot Metro Station, Paris

Porte Maillot is located in the western portion of Paris. It services Metro Line 1 as well as RER C as of 1988. The two stations are connected by a lengthy walkway. It is considered the gateway to Bois de Boulogne and is in fare zone 1.
The original Porte Maillot station was erected in 1900 as a terminus to line 1, meaning trains could reverse without having to turn around. Its setup was similar to those at Porte Dauphine and Porte de Vincennes. The station derived its name from the olden entrance gate at Bois de Boulogne. The first Porte Maillot was moved and replaced with the current station in 1937. The old station is now the administrative office of RATP and is called Espace Maillot.
The current station is situated by several interesting attractions including the huge Bois de Boulogne Park, which by day is filled with merriment and rowboats and by night oddly turns into one of the city's hottest red light districts. Within the parks woods lies the old hunting lodge Chateau de Bagatelle, which was owned by royalty in previous centuries and has its own lush Bagatelle Gardens.
The Congress of Paris' offices can be accessed directly from the connecting walk between the RER and metro station.
