The Poissonniere station is located in northwestern Paris' 9e. It serves metro lines 7 in fare zone 1.
Poissonniere derives its name from a 19th century port of the same title. It was once a main harbor where fishermen from Boulougne brought their goods to the Les Halles market. The word "poissonniere" is actually the French term for fishmonger.
There are many places of interest in the area surrounding the station including the Paris Olympia, Opera Garnier, Musee Grevin, Musee Gustave Moreau, and Square Montholon.
Retail business booms here as well since the district is known for its department store shopping with Paris traditions like Galeries Lafayette and Printemps nearby on boulevard Haussmann.
