The station is named after the Pere Lachaise cemetery which, in turn, was named after Father Francois d'Aix de la Chaise who advised Louis XIV.
The cemetery is the biggest attraction near the station. It is one of the most famed cemeteries in the world because of its colossal tombs and the celebrated names buried there.
