Esplanade de la Defense, which translates to La Defense Boulevard, is located in the western most part of Paris, just outside of the la Defense business district. It is bordered by Courbevoie and Puteaux in one of the city's most densely populated areas. The station services Metro Line 1 and is located in fare zone 2-3.
Esplanade was initially opened in April 1992 as an additional connector between the ever busier Pont de Neuilly and La Defense stations. The A14 auto route passes directly beneath the station, allowing commuters several options into the business district.
The la Defense business district is the closest tourist attraction to the station. It is a powerhouse strip that holds international company headquarters including Axa, SFR, IBM and Total.
