A short walk from Sol, this station is situated in the Plaza de Isabel II, surrounded by beautiful historic buildings. These include the Teatro Real opera house, which lends this station its name and the Royal Palace, a must-see tourist spot. Skip the guided tours and have a wander round admiring the architecture and art work, then relax in a nearby café. The station is within walking distance of the famous San Ginés church, and the even more famous Chocolatería San Ginés, a Madrid institution serving chocolate con churros late into the night.

There are dozens of hostels and other reasonably priced accommodation near here, all well within walking distance of other attractions such as Sol and Gran Vía.
